On March 6th, 2019, Citrix (virtualization and VPN Provider) contacted the FBI to report that its network had been compromised and over six terabytes of data stolen.

It is said that Iranian-backed hackers maintained access to Citrix networks for years. According to security firm Resecurity, this group has compromised over 200 other government agencies, oil and gas companies, and other technology companies.

The FBI states that weak passwords were compromised via a technique known as password spraying.
